Christopher Hart

 

Christopher (36) is a senior treasury economist with Absa Group Economic Research.

 

As a treasury economist he works with the Absa treasury, where he does real-time analysis on the financial markets. The main focus areas are currencies, interest rates, bonds and equities. This also includes derivatives instruments such as options and swaps.

 

His main areas of responsibility include the research and analysis of the international economy and financial markets with respect to the trends and impact on the South African economy. He has also had extensive contact with foreign banks across the world, as a support to Absa's Correspondent Banking division.

 

Christopher has presented papers at numerous conferences both within South Africa and internationally. Some of his research that has been presented at various conferences has focused on NEPAD, South African & African economic growth potential, Hedge Fund investing and Inflation amongst others.

 

Christopher is required to provide input to senior management within the bank and also to Absa's corporate and business clients. He is a spokesperson for Absa on economic matters and is well known in the market.

 

Christopher studied at the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently completing an MBA.

 

His main interest is using TA on economic data to forecast trends and potential for changes in the economic environment.



  

Victor Hugo (Chairman)

 

Victor Hugo B.A. LL.B. (Stell.), Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, practiced as a general commercial attorney before following his interest in investing and trading with active technical strategies. An independent analyst, investor, trader, market strategist and publisher of Turning Point newsletter since 1992, often quoted in the media. Registered with the Financial Services Board as an asset manager, managing a hedge fund and private portfolios. Chairman of the Technical Analysts Society of South Africa. Chief Executive Officer and a director of Hugo Capital (Pty) Ltd consulting on strategy, investment selection and allocation. Course leader with Daan Joubert at the University of the Witwatersrand Business School "TA and Fund Management" 2004.

 

Victor has had wide experience in investing/trading in futures, stocks, warrants, cfd's and calling the markets. This has led to his commitment to investing by system to extract value and to sustain performance, using trend opportunities and intelligent risk management. Areas of particular interest in TA are Elliott Wave, Gann, Fibonacci and cycles.

 

A private pilot, with open and night ratings, with more than 1000 hours experience. "Fly the instruments and what you can see..." he says. Other interests are his two children 13 and 11, friends, golf and the bush. His wife Janet is an investment manager and is a Certified Financial Planner. They live and work in Woodmead Sandton.



 

Daan Joubert

 

Daan Joubert (65). M.Sc, in Physics at University of South Africa then spent 10 years in computer software - operating system development and computer education.

Self employed since 1982: developed the IDSS software for Technical Analysis, independent technical analyst to institutions and various stockbrokers with a long-standing relationship with Silvis Barnard stockbrokers. Weekly ¼ page article on the markets for the Beeld newspaper since 1994.

 

Writing and presenting courses in Technical Analysis since 1988. e.g. Course leader with Victor Hugo at the University of the Witwatersrand Business School "TA and Fund Management" 2004.

 

Rated by various Financial Mail analyst surveys.

Founder member of TASSA - and served on exco since the beginning, as vice chairman until 2004.

 

Interests include secular economic trends, trend line gradient analysis ( ("Chart Symmetry" several papers written on it), market psychology and management theory. He lives with his family near Johannesburg.



 

Janet Hugo (Secretary)

 

Janet Hugo, 36, has been involved in the financial services industry with JSE Shares.com since 1992 and since 1999 has been a registered financial adviser with Hugo Capital. She became a Certified Financial Planner™ in 2003 and completed Higher Diplomas in Investment Management and Estate Planning at UOFS in 2005. She has been accredited by several institutions - including Old Mutual, Liberty, RMBH, Acsis, Ovation, M Cubed and Momentum. Secretary of Technical Analysis Society of Southern Africa. Member of the Insinger de Beaufort SA Investment Committee.

 

As financial planner and investment manager she does planning and strategy services with retirement and living annuities, unit trusts, life and disability assurance, pension funds, targeted return funds and offshore products.

 

Her main interest is advice in selecting then monitoring on an ongoing basis, the "right" long term unit trust, stock market and hedge fund investments according to client needs, risk profile and goals - in strategies appropriate to the investment environment, often using technical, fundamental and relative strength analysis inputs from analysts.

 

Janet has two children, 11 and 9. Her interests are her family, gardening and nature.



 

Costa Perdikis (43)

 

Current Position - Equity Sales & Technical Analysis . head of Institutional Dealing  Desk at Legae Securities, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Previous Position - Head Of Private Clients - Legae Securities. 5 Years

Member of the JSE since 1998.

Total years in market - 12 years.

Writing technical research as a professional for 3 years , total experience in the reading and application of technical analysis 7 years.

Affiliate member of the Market Technicians Association (MTA) , New York , USA

Professional Qualifications in technical analysis: completed CMT 1 & CMT 2 and currently busy with CMT 3 of the Chartered Market Technician 3- year Professional MTA programme in Technical Analysis.

Board Member of TASSA - 2 years.

Interest in TA: using TA for short-term momentum based institutional equity trading.



 

Dr Clive Roffey

 

Dr. Clive Roffey (67) . independent market strategist, Johannesburg South Africa for 30 years. He currently writes monthly columns for "Smart Investor" and "Money Marketing" and is regularly quoted in the "Money" section of the Sunday Times. He is author of "Share Action", "Warrant Alert" and of the top 100 traded shares on the JSE. He is also the author of "Metals Action"

An accomplished speaker, Clive has lectured worldwide at major international conferences on investment in South Africa and investment analysis. He sees himself as a no-nonsense dynamic lecturer on stock market and unit trust analysis.

He has been a contributor to Classic Business radio and is also a regular weekly market commentator on "Consult the Experts" on Summit TV.

His particular areas of interest include the gold market, RSI and divergence (is writing a book on RSI and comparative relative strength).

Academic Qualifications:

B.Sc. Metallurgy 1st class honours, University of London
Ph.D. Electrochemistry, University of London
HNC Mathematics.

Market Analysis:

At the initial congress of the Association of Unit Trusts held in June 1999, Dr. Roffey was invited by the AUT to lecture on unit trust analysis and has lectured subsequently to AUT again.

Dr Roffey consults to several brokers and institutions on share, sector, commodity and unit trust analysis and is also in constant demand as a course co-ordinator on chart analysis for institutional forex, treasury and equity traders.

Dr Roffey is retained by Reuters as their specialist MetaStock software analyst.

 


 

Maureen Williams ( Treasurer) 

 

Maureen Williams (59) trained and qualified as an Optometrist in the UK.

Involved in Technical Analysis since the Crash of 1987.

Founder Member and Executive Member of TASSA since 1994.

Treasurer of TASSA since 2000.

Member of the South African Institute of Stockbrokers since 2001.

Currently a Portfolio Manager at Lefika Securities, a division of SA Stockbrokers.

Extensive Technical Analysis circulated daily to all the Major Institutions.

Special area of interest Elliott Wave Theory, cycles.

Unique Research: 15 years on the Cycles of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, JSE shares and indices.

Maureen lives in Sandton in the greater Johannesburg area.
